From the moment of discharge, the patient must remain on home rest for the first three days after the operation, and will avoid physical exertion such as lifting weights.

  • You may not drive any kind of vehicle or use dangerous machinery until authorized by your doctor.
  • You may not drink alcoholic beverages until after the first three days.
  • The diet will be soft and in moderate quantity for the first 24 hours.
  • You will not wash your head until your doctor says it is okay.
  • You may stain the bandage with some blood on the first day and more lightly a few days later.
  • It is normal to notice some blood staining of the bandage on the first day and more lightly a few days.
  • It is normal to notice mild to moderate unsteadiness that may be uncomfortable; if so, keep on bed or chair rest and take medication as indicated.
  • Some mild to moderate tinnitus is normal. Perform movements smoothly, especially when getting up and lying down, and be accompanied if you need to go down stairs and notice instability, even if slight.
  • You may have some discomfort or slight pain that will subside with the indicated painkillers. Avoid constipation; if necessary you can use a mild laxative for a few days.
  • You should contact your doctor or go to the emergency room in case of significant staining of the bandage, severe pain that does not subside with the recommended painkillers or fever above 38°.
