From the moment of discharge, the patient must remain at home for the first three days after the operation, and will avoid physical exertion such as lifting weights.

  • You may not drive any kind of vehicle or use dangerous machinery until 72 hours after surgery. You can not drink alcoholic beverages until after the first three days. The diet will be soft and in moderate quantity for the first 24 hours.
  • You should not get your ear wet and will not wash your head until your doctor tells you to do so.
  • Avoid sleeping on the operated side.
  • You may stain the dressing with some blood on the first day and more lightly for a few more days. You may have some mild unsteadiness or moderate tinnitus.

  • Effect movements gently, especially when getting up and lying down, and do not make sudden head movements. Sneeze without holding your nose and with your mouth open; if you have to blow your nose, do it gently and one side at a time.
  • For pain take a mild sneeze.
  • For pain, take pain relievers as directed. Avoid constipation; if necessary you can use a mild laxative for a few days. You may have swelling of the lower eyelid of the operated ear.
  • It may be swollen.
  • You should contact your doctor or go to the emergency room in case of very severe dizziness with vomiting and/or very intense ringing in the ear, especially if it starts abruptly, as well as in case of very intense pain that does not subside.
