  • Snoring occurs when the airways become narrowed or obstructed, making it difficult for air to pass through and causing that annoying sound. The causes of snoring can be diverse and it is essential to consult a doctor as it often hides sleep apnoea syndrome, a very widespread disorder that seriously affects people’s quality of life.

  • Sinusitis is an inflammation and infection of the upper respiratory tract: nose and sinuses. Depending on the medical diagnosis, the treatment will be determined by the cause of the inflammation, which is why it is important to see a specialist, who may prescribe nasal solutions to eliminate congestion, antibiotics or even a surgical approach in the case of severe and prolonged sinusitis.

  • Rhinoplasty is the operation on the nose for aesthetic purposes. If necessary, the operation is often used to improve respiratory function, which we call rhinoseptoplasty.

  • Serous (or secretory) otitis media occurs when an acute otitis media has not completely resolved or when an allergy causes a blockage in the Eustachian tube, resulting in the accumulation of mucus in the ear.

  • It is essential to distinguish between the following concepts:

    • Dizziness: refers to the perception of a disturbance in spatial orientation. It is experienced as a diffuse feeling of discomfort or weakness, often associated with cardiovascular or neurological disorders.
    • Instability: characterised by a feeling of imbalance without physical movement. It manifests as a gait disturbance, and some describe it as a feeling of insecurity similar to that of a drunk person.
    • Vertigo: this refers to a sensation of rotating movement of the environment surrounding the person. It can manifest itself as a displacement of the base of support, inclination of the ground, sensation of falling when adopting certain postures, among other symptoms.
  • The sense of smell plays a fundamental role in our enjoyment of life, allowing us to appreciate the exquisite aromas of our favourite foods or the delicate perfume of flowers. However, those with smell disorders may experience a loss of this ability or changes in the way they perceive smells. To make an accurate assessment of a smell disorder, a thorough examination is carried out, ranging from a physical examination of the ears, nose and throat, to a detailed review of the medical history, including possible exposures to toxic chemicals or previous injuries, along with a smell test carried out by a health care professional.

  • Adenoids or vegetations are a mass of tissue at the back of the nasal passage and play an important role in fighting infection in infants and young children, but with development they should shrink and disappear. When they are very large or become infected, they cause a major nasal obstruction that requires an operation to remove them. This operation is called an adenoidectomy.

  • Literally means voice disorder. The important thing is to find out the causes and the type of disorder: organic, if it is caused by the presence of an abnormal structure, or functional, if it is due to misuse or overexertion of the vocal apparatus. Nodules or polyps are among the most frequent organic dysphonia.

  • The sleep study is a crucial tool in the diagnosis of sleep disorders. At our ENT clinic, we offer specialised sleep studies to evaluate conditions such as sleep apnoea and snoring. During the study, the patient spends the night in our facility, where different parameters such as brain activity, breathing, heart rate and eye movements are monitored. These recordings provide us with accurate information about the quality and structure of sleep, allowing us to identify and treat underlying problems. Our expert medical team guarantees a complete and comfortable sleep study for better rest and well-being.

  • In the event of spontaneous bleeding, the procedure to follow is to plug the nose with cotton wool soaked in hydrogen peroxide or vinegar and squeeze the nasal septum vigorously. However, it is advisable to visit a medical centre as soon as possible to find out the cause of the bleeding.

  • What is commonly known as tonsillitis is actually acute pharyngotonsillitis. The ENT doctor decides to operate on two key criteria: when there are more than six episodes per year of tonsillitis with pus plaques and fever, becoming recurrent, or when the size of the tonsils is too large.

  • At CIO we offer specialised studies for the detection and diagnosis of allergies. Our comprehensive approach allows us to identify the underlying causes of allergic reactions, such as rhinitis or allergic sinusitis. Through accurate and personalised testing, we evaluate the immune system’s response to different allergens, such as pollen, dust mites and food allergens.

These tests allow us to provide an accurate diagnosis and design an individualised treatment plan, which may include immunotherapy or other medical approaches.

Our highly trained team and advanced technologies ensure effective and thorough allergy testing to improve our patients’ quality of life.
