Adenoid hypertrophy

Adenoid hypertrophy (or vegetations) is one of the most common causes of nasal obstruction in children. Adenoid hypertrophy can cause mouth breathing, snoring during sleep and contribute to apneas. Sometimes it will be necessary to evaluate the consequences on nocturnal breathing by means of a sleep test to assess the existence of apneas.

This disorder can be associated with recurrent otitis media, also with bad breath in the morning and with deformity of the palate in the child. Adenoid tissue can be operated, assessing each case individually, depending on the age and the repercussions of nasal obstruction. In the presence of symptoms, it is advisable to go to the otolaryngology office, where it will be decided whether or not to operate.
